What is a Level 3 childcare qualification?

This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas in and across the health and social care sector.

The course prepares learners to become Early Years Educators within the UK workforce, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years to support and promote children's early development and provide them with thorough preparation for school. Level 3 qualifications in childcare are higher education courses for students who want to upskill. Here's a list of what the course will help you achieve:

● Support and promote children's early education and development

● Plan and provide effective care, teaching, and learning, preparing children for school

● Make accurate and productive use of assessment

● Develop effective and informed practice.

● Safeguard and promote health, safety, and welfare of children

● Work in partnership with key persons, colleagues, parents, and/or careers or other professionals

Upon completion, you will achieve a nationally-recognized Early Years qualification.

Who can do a level 3 childcare course?

Level 3 childcare practitioner

The Level 3 childcare course is open to individuals who currently work or desire to work in Early Years education and care. If you love children and are happy working with them, this course is for you. However, you must be 16+ years of age. The minimum learning hours are 16+ per week.

Technically you don't 'need' any qualifications or experience, but it is a bonus if you have had any experience or hold an award or certificate in childcare. Candidates who have prior knowledge in childcare would still have to demonstrate professional competence while on placement.

You might be wondering, how do I get a secure placement without having any experience in childcare? Well, that's a good question. You can choose to volunteer 1 or 2 days a week in a nursery or pre-school. What is essential is that you will have gained experience to be a good practitioner.

To work in an Early Years environment and be counted in staff-child ratios, you must already hold or be prepared to first obtain a Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE in Maths and English.

How much is a level 3 childcare course?

The course can be well over £3000. However, Broaden's cost ranges between £2640 and £2880. The childcare diploma certificate can be obtained within 12-18 months if fully supported by an employer.
